For
30 years Windsor Construction Company primarily
focused on individual, custom, residential homes.
In its past project, The Villas at Avalon,
WCCI combined individualized custom home building
with with a "maintenance free" concept
in a uniform community. The Villas at Avalon,
located in West Knoxville just off the 75/40 split
offered maintenance-free living in a golf
community. Steve Windsor, the president, wanted to
give customers an opportunity to personalize their
homes without having the hassle of yard work and
extensive external upkeep.
The
Villas targeted "empty nesters", people
downsizing from a larger home and/or coming close
to retirement. The community consisted of 45 lots
averaging 1/4th an acre in size. The villas are
single family detached dwellings with minimum
setbacks of 15 feet from the neighboring villa.
Each lot has a basic custom landscape package
included in the price of the home and the lawns
are maintained by the villa homeowners association
for a small monthly fee. This as the only villa
community in Knoxville that offered maintenance-free,
unattached customized units in a golf community.
To
achieve this while maintaining uniformity, Steve
Windsor offered 6 basic plans for customers to
choose from and made any changes to the plan that
the customer desired. the only exception was the
outside design. All brick, shingle and trim color
stayed the same with each villa to achieve an
overall uniform "villa" appearance. The
project was a success from the beginning. The
first villa was built in 1997 and at the end of
2000 the project was complete.
The
current project, Bayou
Bend, is an extension of this idea.
